Albert was born, raised, and presently lives in Rancho Cucamonga. Albert graduated from Damien High School, Pitzer College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Studies, Harvard Divinity School with a Master’s Degree in Theological Studies, and Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law with a Juris Doctor degree. He is passionate about diversity in higher education and he sits on the National Board of the Harvard Latino Alumni Alliance. In his free time, he enjoys dancing salsa and bachata.

Danny De La Mora grew up in Ontario, California and graduated from Damien High School and the University of La Verne. He is currently a Commercial Banker at B of A and lives in Rancho Cucamonga with his family. Danny enjoys golf and adventures at Disneyland with his wife and two young daughters.

Dr. Cyndy Byrd is a former Ontario-Montclair School District Assistant Superintendent of Learning and Teaching. Cyndy was born in Brawley, California and currently resides in Brea, California. A graduate of UC Santa Barbara, CSU San Bernardino and Western State College of Law she is retired and is pleased to support the students of her former district when she isn’t traveling.

Kristine Scott is Public Affairs Manager for the Southern California Gas Company, San Bernardino County region. Involved in several regional education and workforce efforts, Kristine serves as the Ontario-Montclair Schools Foundation Secretary. She graduated from CSU Fullerton and currently resides in Rancho Cucamonga.

Tony was born and raised in Pasadena and currently lives in nearby Eastvale. Tony attended BYU for his undergraduate degree and then University of Redlands for his Masters and is currently a Senior Manager of Environmental, Health & Safety at the Walmart Distribution Center Chino. As a first-generation college graduate, Tony feels it is important to get out into the community and show kids that he was at one point in his life just like them and was able to dream big and become a leader in the community through furthering his education. He is a Coach in his free time and enjoys playing golf, especially at the annual Promise Scholars Tournament.

Gary Ovitt

Gary Ovitt is a native of Ontario. He attended San Antonio and Hawthorne Elementary schools, as well as, Vina F. Danks Junior High. Gary graduated from Chaffey High School and the University of Redlands and returned to Chaffey High School to teach for 35 years. He retired from serving 22 years as an elected official as a Councilman and Mayor in Ontario and as a San Bernardino County Supervisor. He now also serves as a Governing Board Member for Chaffey Community College, nonprofit board member for the Ontario Chaffey Community Showband, Children’s’ Fund, the West End YMCA Board and as a Commissioner on the Ontario Parks and Recreation Commission. During his leisure time you can find him reading, traveling and playing golf.

Scott Ochoa is the City Manager for the City of Ontario. Closing the Achievement Gap is essential for cultivating a positive community of caring and compassionate citizens. Scott shares “as the first member of my family to attend college, I know what a distant dream that goal can seem like – until it no longer does because the community rallies around its youth to illuminate an otherwise darkened path.” Scott was born and raised in Azusa, CA and now resides in the City of Ontario with his family. Scott relaxes with music, movies, sports, and by building things by hand. He enjoys time with friends, family, and dogs: Trixie, Roxie, Dottie, Tilly, and Ziggy.

Sue Oxarart is Director of Marketing and Communications for the Greater Ontario Convention & Visitors Bureau, Citizens Business Bank Arena, Ontario Convention Center and the California Welcome Center at Ontario Mills. Sue was born and raised in Ontario and now lives in nearby Alta Loma with her husband. Sue spends her free time gardening, boating, and spending time with her four sons and three grandchildren.

Heather Raymond is the Senior Director, Public Affairs & Brand Communications at Kaiser Permanente. Heather grew up in Sheboygan, Washington and since 2009 has been living in Glendora, California. She obtained a Bachelors of Arts in Broadcast Journalism from Arizona State University and a Masters in Management from University of Phoenix. Heather enjoys hiking, working out, playing the Ukulele and spending time with her husband and kids.

Ontario-Montclair Schools Foundation Board Member Marco Robles is the Public Affairs Director for Cardenas Markets Inc. A former elected official, Marco serves as a leader on several regional business, education, and youth related initiatives and boards. He was recently appointed to serve on the Coca-Cola Company National Latino Business Resource Group, LA VIDA.

Tammy Lipschultz is the Assistant Superintendent of Learning and Teaching for the Ontario-Montclair School District. She was born and raised in Kalamazoo Michigan. A former teacher and principal, she has worked for OMSD for 33 years. A graduate of University of Michigan Tammy lives in nearby Rancho Cucamonga.

Leslie Sorensen is an Ex-Officio Member of the Foundation. Employed by the Ontario-Montclair School District, Leslie has lived in the Inland Empire since 1991 and is a graduate of CSU Fullerton. On weekends, you’ll find her exploring local botanical gardens or cooking with friends and family.

Chris Hollister is the Assistant Superintendent of Alternative Instruction for the Chaffey Joint Union High School District. He is in his 28th year as an educator in this community. Chris has a degree in English from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona and another in Educational Leadership from Azusa Pacific University. In his free time, Chris spends time with and cheering on his two kids and working towards completing a doctorate at the University of Southern California. Fight on!

Ráelyne is the High School Supervisor, Chaffey High School is her alma mater. She was born and raised in the Inland Empire and has called Ontario home for the last 12 years. She is also an Ontario-Montclair School District alumna. Ráelyne graduated from Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, with a B.A. in Women’s and Gender Studies. In her free time, she likes to spend time with her family and fill her sketchbook with portraits and doodles.

Catherine was born and raised in the Inland Empire and graduated from CSU San Bernardino. While there, she came to understand that many students shared similar experiences because they also were first generation students. Catherine chose to serve with Promise Scholars as an AmeriCorps VIP Fellow because the program provided universal college-access to a communities like hers. She developed a passion for helping students realize that college is a place for them. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her two dogs, discovering new places to eat, and going on trips.

Crystal was raised in Ontario, CA. She attended UC San Diego and graduated with her Bachelor’s of Arts in Ethnic Studies. Crystal is the first in her family to graduate college and is passionate about helping all students achieve their dreams. She became passionate about college access after working as the API Retention Coordinator at UCSD’s Student Promoted Access Center for Education and Service (SPACES) in 2014. She has also served two AmeriCorps terms. In her free time, she loves hiking local trails with her dogs, Mischka and Boba, aquascaping her shrimp tank, and practicing her Spanish.

Patreicia Sims was born and raised in Fresno, CA, and moved to the Inland Empire in 2015. She attended CSU Sacramento as a first-generation college student and earned a Bachelor‘s in Exercise Science. Patreicia earned her Master’s in Educational Counseling from the University of La Verne. Patreicia is excited to partner with Promise Scholars to assist students in navigating college, to access resources, and achieve their goals. Fun fact, Patreicia was a Promise Scholars volunteer. In her free time, she likes to watch movies, cook, and spend time laughing and dancing with family.

Ann grew up in Diamond Bar, CA. She graduated from UC Berkeley with a B.S. in Chemical Biology. There she realized that an education after high school was more than just additional classes and tests. College was a means to explore new interests, to develop social and professional skills, and to build lasting relationships with mentors and friends. Ann joined Promise Scholars as an AmeriCorps member because she is passionate about supporting students in their journey towards higher education and achieving their goals beyond. In her free time, you can find Ann reading, baking, or enjoying nature.

Giselle Tarango

Giselle grew up in the Inland Empire, born and raised in the city of Chino. She graduated from California State University, Fullerton, with her Bachelor of Arts degree in English. In a Chemistry class, her instructor took a “flipped classroom” approach and significantly changed her understanding of the material and perspective on learning. Having worked with students in the classroom and transitioning into college at CSUF Transfer Center, she is passionate about championing each student’s unique story and providing transformative resources and support to help students reach their educational goals. She likes to go hiking, read, and creatively write in her free time.

Nathaniel was born and raised in Los Angeles County and graduated from Citrus Community College with an Associate‘s degree in Social and Behavioral Science and a Bachelor’s degree in History at Cal Poly Pomona. Nathaniel noticed that many high school students felt that they had financial barriers in the way when it came to applying and attending colleges. Nathaniel decided to serve with Promise Scholars as an AmeriCorps member to help students overcome those financial barriers and show students that they are capable of reaching their full potential. In his free time, Nathan enjoys; cooking anything from ramen to pizza, playing Dungeons and Dragons, and playing bass.

Julie is a Promise Scholars Advisor supporting early programming and outreach for the Ontario-Montclair Schools Foundation. She grew up in Chino, California and graduated from the University of La Verne with a Bachelor’s in Spanish and Broadcasting. Her experiences as a first-generation student fostered her passion for non-profit work and college attainment for students of all backgrounds. In her free time, she loves to watch television and spend time with her friends and family.
